HAROLD KLETSCHKA

Dr. Harold D. Kletschka (1924-2004), author of A Treatise on Human Life, was a board certified thoracic, cardiovascular and general surgeon. He conceived and co-invented the first and only fully implantable artificial heart and the Bio-Pump®. Kletschka also formed the first publicly held research and development company in America.

Kletschka also earned a law degree in 1972 making him uniquely qualified to write the most comprehensive book ever written on the legal and scientific certainties concerning abortion. With tremendous and meticulous research regarding the theological principles surrounding the sanctity of human life (which not surprisingly align perfectly with scientific and legal certainties), Kletschka has written an authoritative a book as has ever been written on the subject.

Dr. Kletschka found greatness in every academic, business and military endeavor in which he applied his considerable talents. He achieved all of this while maintaining an uncommon sense of humility, dedication to his family and most of all, an unwavering love of God.

BARBARA KLETSCHKA

Barbara G. Kletschka, Chief Manager of Kletschka Publishing and sister of Dr. Harold Kletschka, lived many of the events described in To Change the Heart of Man and was more than Harold’s devoted sister and confidant. Barbara was the first human to have her blood pumped using the Bio Pump® at a critical stage in the development of the new life saving that enabled surgeons to begin saving more lives years sooner. The first time a nonpulsatile pump, a centrifugal blood pump operating on a constrained force-vortex pumping principle had been used on a living subject was July 16 1975. The Bio Pump™ device has since earned international acclaim and continues to assist surgeons around the world. Ms. Kletschka would go on to assist her brother in countless ways until his death in 2004.

As Chief Manager of Kletschka Publishing, Ms. Kletschka is committed to telling her brother’s story and remains the steadfast supporter of his mission; to bring the world the first fully implantable artificial heart.

Barbara is available for book signings and speaking engagements.
